How to add employees to group health insurance mid-policy
You add a new joiner through an endorsement — a mid-term change to the policy. With Onsurity, HR adds the employee (and any dependents) in the TeamSure dashboard, cover starts from their date of addition, and the premium is charged pro-rata for the remaining membership period. No need to wait for renewal or restart the plan.

Adding a joiner, step by step
The whole process is an endorsement handled in the dashboard — no renewal wait, no restart.
1. Add them in the dashboard
HR opens the TeamSure dashboard and adds the new employee — name, date of joining and cover details — plus any dependents they are entitled to include.
2. The endorsement is raised
The addition is recorded as a mid-term endorsement to the policy, the formal way an insurer registers a change to who is covered without reissuing the whole plan.
3. Cover starts from their join date
The new member is covered from the date they are added, so there is no gap between joining and being protected. They receive their e-card to use at network hospitals.
4. Premium is pro-rated
You are charged only for the remaining part of the membership period for that member, rather than a full year, so the cost is proportionate to the time they are covered.
Good to know
No waiting for renewal
You do not have to hold new joiners until the annual renewal. Additions happen any time through the year, so cover keeps pace with hiring.
Dependents too
A new joiner’s eligible dependents — and life events like a newborn or a new spouse for existing employees — can be added the same way, through an endorsement.
Removals work the same way
When someone leaves, HR removes them through a matching endorsement, so you stop paying for people who are no longer on the team.
One digital record
Every addition and deletion is tracked in the dashboard, giving HR a clean, auditable record of who is covered at any point in the policy year.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a new employee to the group plan during the year?
You add them through an endorsement — a mid-term change to the policy. With Onsurity, HR adds the employee and any dependents in the TeamSure dashboard; the addition is registered as an endorsement and the member is covered from their date of addition.
When does the new employee’s cover start?
From the date they are added to the policy. Onsurity applies cover from the join date so there is no gap between the employee starting and being protected, and they get an e-card to use at network hospitals.
How is the premium calculated for a mid-year addition?
On a pro-rata basis. You pay for the remaining portion of the membership period for that member rather than a full year, so the charge reflects the time they are actually covered.
Can I add an employee’s dependents mid-policy too?
Yes. Eligible dependents can be added through the same endorsement process, including life events such as a newborn or a new spouse for an existing employee.
What happens when an employee leaves?
You remove them through a matching endorsement in the dashboard. Their cover ends and you stop being billed for them, keeping the plan aligned with your current team.
